Rebecca K. Watson is a widow who currently resides in NJ. She has two wonderful sons, Tyler (22) and Miles (20). She also has an adorable granddaughter, Tiyanna (3). She has been a disciple in the Philadelphia Church of Christ for 34 years. She has served in many areas of the church and is currently on the HOPE Worldwide Board of Advisors – Philadelphia Chapter. She is a graduate of Peirce College and served on their Board of Advisors. She has been a paralegal for 30 years and currently works at Zarwin, Baum in Philadelphia. For fun and self-care, Rebecca goes to the gym (although only recently) and enjoys Korean Dramas, Bollywood Movies and LOVES music (her Pandora account will verify that) from Weird Al Yankovic, Big Band and Opera (she also likes to rock out too).
In 2001 she married her amazing husband, Micheal Watson. In 2006 Mike and Rebecca adopted brothers Tyler and Miles. Over her years as a disciple, Rebecca has had several losses. In 2012 she lost her mother-in-law, Margaret Watson, whom she adored, her Uncle-in-law, Dan Fitzpatrick and on November 12, 2012, she lost the love of her life. Recently, in 2022, she lost her grandson, Little Tyler, at the age of 5 months. She was also diagnosed with depression in 2007.
Through her grief, she has been surrounded by incredible disciples and more importantly, God. The first 8 years after Mike died were the most difficult of Rebecca’s life but God got her through. Rebecca’s mantra for her life as a disciple “Keep getting up”. She made a vow to God that she would never leave Him.
The three scriptures that keep Rebecca “getting up” are:
John 6:68: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life..”
1 Pet 1:8-9: “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
John 21:20-22: “Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”
