Gail Sciascia
Arizona
Gail Sciascia has been a Christian for over 35 years and served with her husband in the full-time ministry for 19 years. In 2019 Gail and her husband left the full-time ministry. Although switching careers in her mid-fifties was a difficult transition, it was a blessing in disguise. She carved out a career as a government auditor and developed a passion for racial justice.
Growing up in a military family overseas, Gail was shielded from many of the racial conflicts that took place in the United States. However, in her thirties, she began to be more interested in black history. She promoted black history month in her children’s predominantly white schools and hosted Black History Month celebrations which began as dinners with a few families in a home but have grown to annual celebrations with up to 100 in attendance.
When George Floyd was murdered, Gail found our fellowship’s response heartbreaking. She and her husband helped establish and are now board members of Christians Seeking Justice (CSJ), a nonprofit comprised of mostly current and former ICOC members to advocate for justice and fight against racism, especially in the Christian community.
